It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
The first two days of March Madness … there’s nothing else like this. And, to celebrate these two days of glory, it’s only right that I post a breakdown of the Shot That Changed the Game. When Baylor’s season seemed like it was set to fade into obscurity, when people were questioning the team, questioning whether we’d make it to the post-season, THIS happened.
And, with that, we went into overtime against Kansas State, got the win and began the upward climb that pushed us to a 6-seed in this year’s NCAA tournament.
But, what I think we really need to examine is the immediate aftermath of this shot, which was A-MAZ-ING. The reaction is like Froyo Day at an all-female office or something (complete unbridled passion and enthusiasm).
(Also, I apologize for the blurriness of these photos as I had to take pictures of my TV obvi).
Coach Patterson is the first to grasp exactly what’s happening. Note the squatting position indicative of shock and awe.
And then, Coach Scott Drew decided to invent a new dance (“Do the Scott Drew – pose for the frame” probably will become a major Top 40 hit any day now.)
First, you lean wit it.
Then you rock your hips to the side.
Then, you do some sort of permutation of The Sprinkler.
Next up on the re-ax analysis, we have what I like to call The Passion of Ish Wainright. Now, my love for Ish was cemented when I started watching his “Hannah Montana” song bounce action, but these pictures just take it to the next level.
“Wait – you’re saying there’s a chance?”
“THAT. JUST. HAPPENED.”
“It’s just too much to take in. Did that really just happen?!?!”
So excited – gotta knock over my teammate.
“Sorry about knocking you over, Royce. You know it’s all hug. Now, get in here for a signature Ish-hug!” “Wait – you don’t look very excited about this bro-love?”
Logan Lowery went all “Mom bought pizza rolls!” on the situation, while Taurean said, “I’m gonna leave the crazy face-making to Ish this time and just jump around because this kind of gamechanger makes me feel some type of way.”
Rico Gathers stayed like a boss throughout – all “Oh, we got this.”
I notice he’s keeping an eye on Yung Heard today though, so as not to be bamboozled again.
And, maybe one of my favorite things of all – the Swaggy C (Chad Rykhoek) reaction.
“Yeah, guys, I know something exciting is going on, but my head really itches.”
We appear to have two concurrent incidences of non-consensual hugging going on here at the same time. But, hey, it was an emotional moment, right?
Sic em and on to the Big Dance!
